The Borders landscape will be on view to a global TV audience again this autumn when the Tour of Britain starts in Kelso.

The 20th edition of the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain gets underway in Kelso on Tuesday 3 September, and will follow a route around the Borders that takes in climbs around the Eildon Hills and Scott’s View, before returning to the cobbled square at the end of the first stage.

Kelso’s Oscar Onley is currently starring in his first Tour de France, and while it is still to be confirmed that the 21-year-old will race again on the British tour – having previously raced past his own house in Kelso – the field will feature some of the world’s leading cyclists.

The South of Scotland was recognised in 2023 as being a UCI Bike Region, due to the commitment to not just elite cycling but cycling for all, and this will be the tenth time in 15 years that the area has held a stage start or finish of the Tour of Britain.

I am delighted that we will once again be welcoming the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain back to the Scottish Borders and I’m incredibly proud that we’ll be hosting the first stage, entirely within our area.

“The South of Scotland was recognised as a UCI Bike Region last year and also hosted various events as part of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. We continue to do all we can along with our partners to maximise the power of the bike for the benefit of everyone in the region, and the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain can help play its part.”
