Historic and cultural venues across the Borders are to open doors for free to tap into the trend for late summer tourism.

Celebrating its 35th year, ‘Doors Open Days’ is a national event that provides free access to sites and activities throughout Scotland, promoting awareness of the country’s built and cultural heritage and ensuring it is accessible to all.

With an increasing trend towards tourists visiting Scotland in August and September, events will be taking place across September 7 and 8.This will allow the Borders to showcase places for which it is known alongside some lesser-known hidden gems.

Events taking place include guided tours of Borders Distillery, the chance to explore historic churches and the Monteath Mausoleum, and go behind the scenes and watch live broadcasts at TD9 Radio, as well as visit the Great Tapestry of Scotland and Trimontium Museum and Fort, the largest Roman fort site north of Hadrian’s Wall.
