First Funded Staff Posts Announced by Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce

The Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce has today (Dec 4th 2023) announced they will seek to employ their first ever paid staff. This exciting and game changing post has been made possible due to the SBCC receiving funding from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is a central pillar of the UK Government’s Levelling Up agenda and provides £2.6 billion of funding for local investment by March 2025.  The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local businesses, and people and skills.

Newly confirmed Chair, Trevor Jackson (who had previously been Interim Chair), said on the announcement of funding, “The Board and I are delighted to receive this funding. A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get us to this point and I am very proud of what has been achieved. A huge thanks to the Scottish Borders Council and the UK Government for awarding funding which will be truly transformative for those in the Borders Business Community. The Borders deserves to have a Chamber of Commerce that has the capacity to represent those that work, run businesses and innovate in the region and with the creation of a full time Member Engagement role, we will be able to ramp up our already substantial offering and support more businesses.”
