The Scottish and UK Governments have launched Project Gigabit, a transformative initiative to bring ultra-fast gigabit broadband to remote areas. This high-speed rollout will specifically improve digital connectivity for homes and businesses in the Scottish Borders and East Lothian.
11,000 Homes to Benefit from Full-Fibre Broadband
To begin with, the first phase of Project Gigabit in Scotland will install underground fibre-optic cables. This will connect over 11,000 rural homes and businesses. Notably, key villages from Cockburnspath to Dolphinton, and down to Morebattle and Yetholm, will benefit first.

In a major boost for the Scottish Borders broadband network, GoFibre secured a £26 million contract to lead the project. This marks a significant milestone in Scotland’s digital expansion.

Melrose Sevens Reaches Global Audience
The benefits of fast, reliable broadband are already visible. For example, Melrose RFC live-streamed the Melrose Sevens rugby tournament to over 60,000 viewers worldwide. This proves high-speed internet enhances tourism and global engagement.
