Artificial Intelligence (AI) once sounded like something exclusive to a sci-fi film but this month it takes centre stage in the Scottish Borders.
Now widely known as “AI,” tools like ChatGPT are reshaping industries. Schools and universities are even rethinking how they assess students. To help local businesses harness AI, the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce (SBCC) is bringing top experts to the region.
Scottish Borders Business Expo 2025
The ‘Scottish Borders Business Expo 2025 – AI: Actionable Insights 2.0’ follows on from the success of last year’s conference in Kelso, which heard from rocket scientists and Everest conquerors among others. Hosted this year by the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel near Peebles, the Expo delegates will be almost exclusively drawn from businesspeople in the Borders or with interests in the region, but the speakers are coming from near and far.
Expert Speakers Bringing Global AI Insights
CGI has been a big presence in the Borders since the tech giant took on major contracts with Scottish local authorities and other clients. Diane Gutiw, the Vice President and Global AI Research Lead at CGI, is also heading to the Borders from Canada to share her insights to how AI is transforming opportunities and challenges.
Selby Cary, another headline speaker, will focus on how SMEs in rural Scotland can use AI to overcome unique challenges. Meanwhile, Mathew Norbury will introduce FC Labs, a firm pioneering AI-powered wearable brain imaging. His technology helps improve brain health and performance while reducing reliance on medication.
With all tickets now sold and a waiting list in place, it’s clear that Borders businesses have an appetite for learning and connections in the Borders.
